The biggest mistake people make is buying an expensive mic and an expensive preamp and putting it in an improperly treated room or closet.

I’ve put together five or so home studios, as well as two commercial studios, and I’ve learned a few things when it comes to getting the best sound possible. That said, there are some difficulties when it comes to recording in a home studio. Home studios are wonderful - they’re convenient, comfortable and cost effective. About half of the songs I mix were recorded in part, or entirely, in a home studio.
